Two cycle solution speeds MAP packaging process

The ability of Proseal’s F40G gas flushing heat seal machine to deliver modified atmosphere packaging without the need to pull a vacuum has enabled Dutch cheese manufacturer Kaaskeuken BV to maximise throughput for its newly launched range of Tapas products.

The new products, developed for a private label customer, are top sealed in round and rectangular trays and require modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) in order to achieve the required extended shelf life.

The Proseal system does not need to pull a vacuum before gas flushing, and by removing one of the component parts of the sealing cycle, much higher speeds can be achieved. At Kaaskeuken, the Proseal F40 is delivering 15 cycles per minute on a three-impression tool.

“The high capacity of the Proseal machine is a major advantage for us,” confirms Remco Groot, Operational Manager at Kaaskeuken. “The concentration of gas and the resulting MAP is also very good and provides the shelf life we require for these products. The F40 is competitively priced and we have also been delighted with the speed of delivery, reliability of the equipment and the high level of service from Proseal and its agent Stephan Nederland.”

The F40 accepts randomly spaced trays from any conveyor and is capable of sealing and perimeter trimming film lids onto a variety of pack materials including CPET, polypropylene, PVC, styrene, board and smooth walled foil. The machine is manufactured to food-industry approved hygiene standards, allowing fast and easy wash down during changeovers.

“The fact that we can meet products’ MAP requirements at significantly higher speeds is a major USP and we are confident of continuing to build our presence in this market,” comments Proseal’s sales manager Gari Wyatt.
