The main reception at the recently opened £26m cancer centre, The Christie at Macclesfield, has been named ‘The Proseal Reception’, after Proseal’s generous donation towards the construction of the facility.

The tray sealing company contributed £1 million towards the build, which provides localised, cancer care to patients, delivering 12,500 radiotherapy treatments and 6,800 chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormonal treatments each year.

Construction of the two-storey building commenced in the summer of 2020, with the first chemotherapy patient treated in December 2021 and the first radiotherapy patient in February this year.

“In a short space of time, The Christie at Macclesfield has made such a difference to hundreds of patients and their families, all thanks to the brilliant team of healthcare professionals who are committed to delivering the very highest standard of care for our patients,” said Anna McIntosh, Major Relationship Development Manager for The Christie charity.

“We could not have opened the Macclesfield facility without the support from companies like Proseal, and we’re so grateful for every donation we received from our corporate partners, workplace fundraising, grants from trusts and the local community.”

The new centre is transforming cancer care not just in East Cheshire but in the rest of the county, North Staffordshire, and the High Peak area of Derbyshire. Previously, patients had to travel to the main Christie facility in Withington, South Manchester. Now, with some radiotherapy patients needing treatment every weekday for up to six weeks, the Macclesfield hub is a welcome relief to those requiring localised care.

Since opening in 2021, patient activity has increased by 10%. Complementary health and well-being programmes are accessible alongside cancer treatments, with counselling for patients, relatives and staff used regularly.

Jon Garner, Packaging Group President said: “We are unbelievably proud to support The Christie cancer centre which is such a life-changing resource to patients from East Cheshire and the surrounding areas. We’re honoured to have the main reception named after us and delighted to hear of the enormous impact The Christie at Macclesfield continues to have on our local community, providing state-of-the-art treatment on our doorstep.”
