The opportunities in the retail food sector afforded by top sealed trays will be a key theme on the PackIL stand at Israfood, where the company will exhibit a model from the extensive range of tray sealers from Proseal, one of the world’s market leaders in the technology.

Top sealed trays offer a variety of benefits including enhanced on-shelf presentation for products, effective tamper evidence, efficient use of packaging materials and the availability of techniques such as gas flushing to provide extended shelf-life.

The Proseal GTRe on display is a semi-automatic tray sealer that provides the ideal introduction to tray sealing.  It is perfect for smaller scale enterprises, which do not require a fully automatic in-line tray sealer, as well as for the new product development work, and its compact dimensions mean it can fit into the smallest of factory spaces.

Importantly, the tray sealer is able to handle all types of sealing requirements such as atmospheric, gas flushed, and vacuum gas flushed trays as well as different tray formats and materials including plastic, board and pulp versions with no modifications necessary.  This enables food manufacturers to switch more easily to new pack formats without additional and costly investment.

As part of this versatility, Proseal is the tray sealing partner for the Halopack tray, the first fully gas-tight cardboard MAP packaging.  Produced with renewable or recycled cardboard, Halopack combines a strong environmental profile with high barrier properties that maintain product quality and extend shelf-life.  The patented design is fully sealable for efficient in-line production and Proseal can supply a machine that erects and assembles the packs.

Another increasingly popular format is the Skin Pack, where the film wraps tightly around the product to extend shelf-life without the need for gas flushing, while also providing enhanced presentation. As well as the standard skin pack, the GTRe is also the world’s first semi-automatic tray sealer that can seal products which sit up to 100mm above the edge of the tray, making it ideal for the Skin Deep format for large pieces of meat and joints.

Unlike traditional manual machines where the operator has to wait for each tray to be sealed, the rotary operation of the GTR-E means a new tray can be loaded while the previous one is being sealed, delivering higher speeds and efficiencies to meet production line requirements.

In addition, the tray sealer incorporates Proseal’s innovative in-house developed E-seal technology, a high precision, high force electric seal system that creates a very tight and reliable seal each time while reducing compressed air usage by over 90%, thus delivering important energy and cost savings.

PackIL is the Proseal distributor for Israel.

“There is huge potential for the adoption of top sealed trays in Israel and we are delighted to present Proseal’s extensive capabilities to Israeli companies for the first time,” comments Guy Loewenstein, PackIL’s Managing Director.

“Our participation at Israfood provides the perfect opportunity to discuss specific requirements with customers and outline the many formats and techniques available to meet their needs.”
